MP Report- June 4, 2021

  1. The news of the remains of 215 children found in a mass grave at a former residential school in Kamloops is tragic beyond words. I wish to express my deepest sympathies to the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc nation and to all the Indigenous communities who are sharing in this trauma. I have reached out to the Chiefs in my riding and I have called on the Government of Canada to provide whatever resources are needed to identify, protect and honour the children buried at the Kamloops Indian Residential School

  1. On the heels of an expert government report calling for the end of Justin Trudeau’s disastrous hotel quarantine program, the Liberal government has decided to double the fines for Canadians who refuse to take part in the program. Instead of increasing the fine for Canadians refusing to take part in their unsafe hotel quarantine, the Trudeau Liberals must listen to the science and immediately scrap their disastrous program.

  1. Canada has not had a softwood lumber agreement with the United States since the fall of 2015, when Conservatives left office. The Liberal government failed to negotiate softwood lumber into the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA). This government must immediately act to ensure that Canada’s softwood lumber industry, and the hundreds of thousands of workers and families who rely on these jobs, are not impacted by these devastating tariffs.

  1. The government attempted to cut off debate of Bill C-10, Trudeau government legislation that is an attack on Canadians’ freedom of expression. In a democratic society, abuses of power and authority can and should be called out without fear of retribution. While the NDP and the Bloc may look the other way on the freedom of expression, Canada’s Conservatives will not. Conservatives succeed in preventing the Trudeau government from suppressing debate of this bill and we continue to stand up for your freedom of expression.
