Statement: Throne Speech

For Immediate Release

November 24, 2021

Ottawa, ON: Mel Arnold, Member of Parliament for the North Okanagan-Shuswap, released the following statement today in response to the Throne Speech that opened the 44th Parliament of Canada yesterday:

“The Trudeau government’s Throne Speech should have provided Canadians clear and realistic strategies for fighting inflation, overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic and supporting flood recoveries in British Columbia, but it did not.

“Instead of presenting an economic plan for families, seniors and small businesses facing mounting inflation, the Trudeau government presented a roadmap leading Canada towards the same results we have seen in the past six years- more deficits and higher taxes at a time when many Canadians are barely making ends meet.

“From coast-to-coast-to-coast, life is getting more expensive for Canadians, including the citizens of the North Okanagan-Shuswap.

“The vision presented by the government does nothing for Canadians facing inflation and the cost-of-living crisis driven by housing shortages, supply chain constraints, and stagnating wages for workers.

“The Throne Speech failed to even mention Canada’s agriculture and manufacturing sectors, threats to Canada’s food security, nor the need to stimulate private investment required to support national recovery.

“In the Parliament ahead, I will continue to work with my Conservative colleagues to stand up for the millions of Canadians, employers and workers left behind in Justin Trudeau’s economy.”
